This is a beautiful violin. We bought it for our 10yr old son who has a love for violin, and wanted to start lessons. This came with everything needed in a great case. His violin teacher was so impressed with the sound and quality she wanted the information to forward to others families. They also have excellent prompt customer service. We couldn't be more pleased! Obviously not top quality for the money but for our needs to find out if my 12 yo will like it and stick with it...its perfect. Also arrived earlier than promised.
A surprisingly decent violin, for the price! The finish is quite lovely, my daughter prefers it to the standard "violin red". I immediately changed the included no-name strings to D'Addario Preludes, and slightly adjusted the bridge and the nut, so it's not exactly "out of the box" - but the tone and resonance is quite nice, and the bow that came with it is quite good, and heavy enough to play well. The included shoulder rest is better than average, easily adjusted, and fits exactly into the half moon shaped cutout in the case (in case you wondered what that slot is for). The case is, also, quite nice! I wouldn't call this an "advanced" student instrument, but it's quite good for a beginner to intermediate - and only time will tell how well this holds up.
We also purchased the fretless strings 4/4 violin wrap (to avoid using tapes), and got the "Play Violin Now" book and DVD set, for truly DIY violin learning. But I don't know if I'd try to start from zero this way - my daughter took private lessons and played in a beginner orchestra for a year when she was younger, so she does know the basics, and I play viola so I can help with basic bowing etc. If you've never touched a stringed orchestra instrument, you might need to get some assistance getting this violin properly set up - but if you want a nice violin to play for fun, this instrument is a great value!

Super impressed with this product. Purchased the 1/2 size for my 9 year old daughter who wants to learn violin. I received it about 10 days before Christmas, inserted the bridge and tuned it using a clip-on style guitar tuner. It stayed in tune remarkably well over that time and just sounds so good for a $100 musical instrument. After a brief discussion about listening to the tone and trying to make it sound "not scratchy" it seemed to click for her and she was able to get some good sounding notes, both bowed and plucked, on Christmas morning.
